So far may not many know that in the Army has soldiers who skillfully mastered the technology mapping survey. Being a historical fact that most of our national land area was mapped by soldiers Topography. For a while even the perception of the maps show that there has been synonymous with Topography (read: Jantop - Topographic Bureau.) And in fact had long Jantop also been turned into the Army Topographic Directorate (Dittopad), which on April 26th 2011 celebrated the 65th anniversary.

For that might be helpful to know at a glance what and whom the Army Topography. Here is a casual chat with the Head of Sub Directorate Development (Kasubditbin) Mapping Dittopad, Lieutenant Colonel CTP Drs. Ibn Fatah, M.Sc. that with open arms to give a lengthy explanation about the topography of the Army.
"Army Topographic Directorate (Dittopad) is one of the Central Executive Agency Mabesad who have the responsibility in guiding and organizing data and information on geography / terrain to support the tasks of the Army", the statement of Lieutenant Colonel CTP Drs. Ibn Fatah, M.Sc. started his explanation.

Citing Law No. 34 of 2004 on the TNI, which is then translated into the doctrine of PEM, noted Army duties include duties to uphold state sovereignty, defend the territorial integrity of the land, and protect the safety of the nation and to execute a military operation to war (OMP) and military operations other than war (MOOTW).

Along with the development of the strategic environment that affect the execution of these tasks, responsibilities held Dittopad and staff are not getting lighter and easier.

Lieutenant Colonel CTP Drs. Ibn Fatah, M.Sc. then mention two examples of embodiment Dittopad responsibilities and staff on their respective duties. First, complete topographic map coverage of the national land area which had to be completed by the Strategic Plan 2010-1014. Second, providing support for geographic information / fields that match the needs of the ranks of the army units in order to secure the border region, the outermost small islands, areas prone to conflict and natural disaster-prone as well as for the sake of training or education.

This is a challenge that must be answered by Dittopad and ranks. There is no other way, Dittopad and staff should be able to quickly adapt to the demands of the need for geographic information / fields are more accurate, complete, up to date and easy to use.

Today, the old paradigm that is in the minds of the ranks of the army unit that the topography of AD is identical to the product only topographic maps (map oriented), should be abolished and replaced with a new paradigm that the topography of AD are able to provide product information on geography / terrain in a format that is more diverse, flexible, dynamic and real time - not just a sheet of paper maps and book reports tend to be static.

For the topography of the Army established a close cooperation with national Surta community and among universities in order to improve effectiveness and efficiency in the provision of geographic information for the benefit of development and defense. Cooperation among other woven with ITB, UGM, LAPAN, Bakosurtanal and other institutions. So is the education and training abroad are also built, among others, Britain, Japan, the Netherlands, the United States and Australia.

Closing the explanation, Lieutenant Colonel CTP Drs. Ibn Fatah, M.Sc. asserted that with the rapid national development in all fields, the challenge for the world survey and mapping (Surta) nationwide in the future will be more complex and heavier. So we all need to reaffirm the determination and commitment to continue to build communication and mutual understanding of stakeholders (stakeholders) provider of geographic information so hopefully there is a positive synergy in order to meet the demands and needs for geographic information in a format that is more diverse, flexible, dynamic and real time to the interests of development and defense of national security.
